Culling and Pest Control

A change in mindset needs to come to help us acknowledge that all animals, whatever species are individual beings whose life matters to them. They all have feelings and have a right to live free from unnecessary suffering. This is no different when we are considering animals that are deemed “pests” or “ugly”.

Actions against animals must take into account the level of threat and need to assess all alternatives if considering a lethal defence. There is no one answer for these situations and decisions will need to be made on a case-by-case basis.

Animal Liberation Tasmania understands that aggressive methods of defense are sometimes the only option, but regardless of the animal species or circumstance, we encourage nonviolent and nonlethal controls whenever possible.

Areas of concern

  • Pig dogging
  • Feral animals
  • 1080 poison
  • Proposed Tasmanian deer cull via aerial shooting
  • Culling of native species for animal agriculture

What can I do at home?

Thank you for taking the time to consider the lives of the creatures that have made their way into your home. There are now many methods of control you can try out that will be natural and safe, while having minimal impact on the insects or rodents you may be wanting to help move on. You may need to try out different options, but if there is not an immediate threat of harm, please take the time to do this.

PETA offers some advice and methods here, but you may find other alternatives with a quick browse of the internet.

What about insects and other “pests”?
